Having been on the other side of the lens allows me a crucial insight into the subject's experience. Most actors are uncomfortable with the still camera; direction is key. Bringing the client into the comfort zone is essential. What is ultimately most important is defining individuality.
There is no reason for an actor not to have a great headshot. It's the fault of the photographer if the client doesn't get it. Nobody leaves my studio unhappy!
